Pastoral Prayer for November 24, 2024
Our pastoral prayer this morning comes to us from Walter Brueggemann.
Please allow his words to become your own.
Loving God,
you have spoken to us in gracious, sovereign ways.
You have spoken through prophets and apostles.
You have spoken in Scripture
that is always endlessly new among us.
You have spoken among us by the stirring of your spirit.
You have spoken to us and for us
in Jesus, your word fleshed.
We give you thanks
for many mothers and many fathers
who have responded to your utterance.
We give you thanks
for songs of exuberant praise,
and for prayers of deep trust,
and for poems of urgent imperative,
and for shrill fits of rage addressed to you.
As we read and study your word,
break our silences,
hear us to freedom,
receive us in our gratitude,
and turn our bold words
into thankful lives of faith and obedience.
Amen.
